Both the KONA-SD and KONA-HD support native 10-bit resolution - the maximum allowed in SMPTE SDI and HD-SDI standards. Using the QuickTime V210 10-bit YUV format, KONA captures directly to space efficient 10-bit files on disk. Because KONA works in a native YUV format, clips that have not been processed with effects are output as exact clones of the original digital input -- the ultimate in quality. Even when working with graphics/effects programs like Adobe AfterEffects in 8-bit RGB, KONA's 10-bit video/8-bit RGB codecs by Blackmagic Design provide significantly higher quality as compared to 8-bit video. For the highest quality, KONA also supports Blackmagic Design's 10-bit video/16-bit RGB codecs. KONA-SD and KONA-HD will also support many legacy 8-bit formats for backward compatibility.
